Hans Zimmer, Hollywood’s most in demand and innovative film music composer whose 100 film scores have made over $24 billion at the box office, has today announced his very first tour.
For the tour Hans’s 20-piece studio band with whom he records his award winning soundtracks will be appearing alongside Lebo M best known for his stunning vocals on Hans’s score for Disney’s The Lion King as well as an orchestra and choir. With over 70 musicians on stage, Hans Zimmer Live On Tour will be a not-to-be-missed audio and visual live spectacular.
The tour starts in London on April 6th 2016 at OVO Arena Wembley, with an extra date added on the 7th due to phenomenal demand.
The German-born musician has composed the soundtracks to blockbusters such as Inception, Interstellar, The Dark Knight Trilogy (all with filmmaker Christopher Nolan), Gladiator, 12 Years a Slave, The Lion King, Pirates of the Caribbean, Spiderman, The Thin Red Line, The Da Vinci Code, Mission Impossible, Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, Thelma And Louise, Crimson Tide, Rain Man and many more.
Hans, who has been described ‘One of the 100 living geniuses’ by The Telegraph, has been honored with an Academy Award®, two Golden Globes®, three Grammys®, an American Music Award, and a Tony® Award. His most recent Academy Award nomination for Interstellar marks his 10th career Oscar nomination with the Academy. In 2003, ASCAP presented him with the prestigious Henry Mancini award for Lifetime Achievement for his impressive and influential body of work. He also received his Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010.
According to the director Steve McQueen (12 Years A Slave) “Hans Zimmer is quite simply the contemporary composer to work with when it comes to translating a visual narrative into sound”.
The 2016 tour comes off the back of two very special ‘Hans Zimmer Revealed’ show at London’s legendary Hammersmith Apollo in 2014, the sell-out shows were rapturously received by critics and the public alike. Incredibly in a Hollywood career that has spanned decades, these were Hans’s first full shows and were made even more special by the appearance of two of Zimmer’s collaborators guitarist Johnny Marr and Pharrell Williams.
Like the Hammersmith shows ‘Hans Zimmer Live On Tour’, will be a striking visual experience designed and lit by the world-renowned lighting designer Marc Brickman. Marc has worked with everyone from Pink Floyd to Nine Inch Nails to Barbra Streisand and is responsible for the lighting of the Empire State Building in New York. The Hans Zimmer show will not only sound unlike any other it will also look unlike any other.
The Hammersmith shows encouraged Hans and his friend Harvey Goldsmith to put on this forthcoming Europe-wide concert series.
On the announcement of the tour Hans commented, “Performing a tour like this is something that I have always wanted to do, and I am thrilled that the time has finally come,” said Zimmer. “I am very excited to get some of my very talented friends together and give our audiences an experience unlike any concert they have ever been to before.”
Harvey Goldsmith “There are a number of touring concerts with orchestras playing film music with the movie projected on the screen above. Hans, will be presenting his music his way. Hans has chosen an amazing array of musicians to accompany him on stage including special guests. This a show not to be missed”.
